Men's soccer to open ASUN play by hosting Lipscomb

9/25/2025 10:12:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team will open Atlantic Sun Conference play by hosting Lipscomb at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Bellarmine (4-2-2) will be looking to end a five-game losing streak to Lipscomb (1-5-2). The Knights defeated the Bisons in their first two meetings in the Division-I era, but LU has owned the outcomes since then. The squads squared off in the 2023 ASUN Tournament finals.

ABOUT LIPSCOMB
Lipscomb's record is deceptive, as, among others, its challenging nonconference slate has included a pair of matchups against top 10 teams in Wake Forest and Gardner-Webb, who were both ranked seventh nationally when squaring off with the Bisons. LU also has upcoming contests against North Carolina and Louisville interspersed with its ASUN games. Lipscomb is coming off a 2-0 home loss in the Battle of the Boulevard to fellow Nashville school Belmont. With two goals apiece, Levi Jones and Diego Ramirez have accounted for four of the team's five goals on the year.

KNIGHTS NOTES
• The ASUN instituted intra-divisional play only in the regular season this year. As such, Bellarmine will also travel to Gold Division counterpart Lipscomb, with the second matchup set for Oct. 25 in Nashville.
• Bellarmine is 3-0 at home this season. The Knights defeated Xavier 3-1, Northern Kentucky 1-0 and D3 Spalding 7-0.
• Bellarmine is likely to have a little extra motivation this conference season. Despite earning a berth in the ASUN Tournament in all five previous seasons in the league, the Knights were picked last (eighth of eight) in the ASUN preseason coaches' poll.
Johan Nissen-Lie on Monday was named ASUN Player of the Week. The sophomore forward recorded the program's first hat trick in the D1 era when he scored three goals against Spalding, and he followed with a goal in a 3-0 win at Bowling Green State. He is the ASUN leader in goals (six) and points (12).
• In his first start of 2025, Martin Cadagan scored Bellarmine's first goal against Bowling Green State, which ultimately stood as the game-winner. Despite playing on the back line, the sophomore defender has notched three goals in 15 career games.
Nick Harshaw registered Bellarmine's second goal against Bowling Green State, and it was his second of the season. The sophomore midfielder was a unanimous ASUN All-Freshman Team selection last year.
• Redshirt junior defender Jeffrey Cox and redshirt senior midfielder Brendan Schoemehl both had an assist against Bowling Green State. They are tri-captains alongside senior defender and Preseason All-ASUN Team pick Rhys Davies.
