LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University women's tennis team bounced back on Saturday morning, defeating Ball State 4-2 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
Bellarmine (7-15) ran into a couple bumps in the schedule last week, falling 7-0 at Middle Tennessee before coming up just short in a 4-3 battle at Chattanooga.
Today, the Knights got back into the win column for the seventh time this season, defeating Ball State 4-2.
In doubles, BU got going in a hurry. After dropping the match in flight two, juniors
Marika Caruk and
Nikola Kollaritsch evened things with a 6-1 win in flight three. Senior
Vendula Kryslova and sophomore Reese Parked closed out the opening session with a 6-4 win in flight one, securing the team point for the Knights.
Moving into singles, Kryslova continued her hot play with a 6-1, 6-1 win, going 2-0 on the day.
The Cardinals earned their first point of the match on court three, followed shortly by another win on court two to even the match 2-2.
Kollaritsch became the second Knight to go 2-0 on the day, winning her singles match 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) on court five.
On court four, freshman
Gracie Hurley, playing on court four, bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the opening set for a 7-6 win in the second. Hurley was leading 5-1 in the third set before her opponent
retired from the match, giving her the victory and clinching the win for the Knights 4-2.
Up next, Bellarmine will take a couple weeks off competition before returning to action on March 7 with a road trip to Butler.
