LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Bellarmine University men's and women's swimming teams will look to make a splash in their first ever dual meet, traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday night to battle Division-I Xavier University.
In the program's inaugural season, the Knights' roster features seven men and nine women.
Sophomore Alexandra Caneris, one of four upperclassmen on the women's roster, is expected to provide solid leadership along with juniors
Mallory Kramer,
Brogan Uphoff, and
Lindsey Horrell.
The freshman class features
Sydney Cawvey,
Stephanie Davalos,
Amanda Forti, and
Hannah Warfel.
On the men's side breaststroker Trent Mattingly and sprinter
Michael Polio are expected to pace the squad. Mattingly, a product of Paul Laurence Dunbar in Lexington, Ky. finished in 6th place in the KHSAA State Meet in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 59.21.
Polio had a decorated prep career as well, sharing individual high point honors at the Region Two Championship, winning both 100y butterfly and 50y freestyle, while anchoring the 200y freestyle relay that set a new region record.
Polio and Mattingly will lead fellow freshman Jacob Arnold,
Nathan Blaine,
Alan Richardson, and
Evan Tillett along with sophomore
Josh Underwood.
The meet is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start time at Xavier's O'Connor Sports Center.
