LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Bellarmine University's men's soccer team put up three first half goals against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers and made those hold up for a 3-0 victory in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams.
The Knights were led by juniors Brad Barraclough and
Ross Hopkins, who handled the scoring duties today. Hopkins drew first blood on a penalty kick to stake the Knights to a 1-0 lead at the 6:38 mark.
Five minutes later, Hopkins provided the assist as Barraclough headed the cross into the back right corner of the net. Barraclough then finished the game's scoring when he chased down a deep punt from goalkeeper
Zane Reifsteck and beat KWC's Ryan Samuels for the score. It marked the second time in this young season Reifsteck has recorded an assist off a punt.
Bellarmine (3-0, 1-0 GLVC) dominated for most of the game, recording 22 shots to just three for Kentucky Wesleyan (1-2, 0-1).
The Knights will step out of conference play to take on the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City in a road game on Friday, Sept. 11.
