JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bellarmine University redshirt senior midfielder
Brendan Schoemehl and senior defender
Rhys Davies both garnered Atlantic Sun Conference weekly awards for men's soccer, the league office announced Monday.
Schoemehl was named ASUN co-Player of the Week with North Florida's Geraldo Neto, while Davies was recognized as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week. The praise for the Knights duo came for their efforts in helping lead the Knights to a 3-0 victory over Lipscomb on Saturday in ASUN play.
Schoemehl delivered a brace against the Bisons, accounting for the first and third goals. The holding midfielder attempted a season-high four shots, converting on half of them in the team's fourth straight win. They were his first two goals of the season to complement his team-high three assists. He's now cracked double figures in career goals with 10.
Davies assisted on the game-winning goal against Lipscomb with a pinpoint throw-in to Schoemehl. The versatile defender, who's been equally adept at center back or outside back for the ASUN's top-ranked defensive unit, helped spearhead the team's fourth shutout while limiting the Bisons to a single shot on goal.
This is Schoemehl's second career ASUN weekly award after being acknowledged as the Defensive Player of the Week in 2023, a year in which he was named first-team All-ASUN before suffering a season-ending injury early in the 2024 campaign. It's the first career ASUN weekly accolade for Davies, who was honored on the Preseason All-ASUN Team.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper
Peter Van Euwen (Goalkeeper of the Week) and sophomore forward
Johan Nissen-Lie (Player of the Week) have also earned ASUN weekly awards this season for Bellarmine.
