LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Getting a pair of goals from super sub Reyna Naranjo, the Bellarmine University women's soccer team turned in a strong performance on Friday night, beating the Drury University Panthers 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Naranjo's two goals give the junior from Albuquerque, N.M. a team-best six on the season and eleven for her career which put her one goal shy of entering the program's top-10 career list.

“You can tell that Reyna is looking more and more confident around the goal,” said Coach Jonathan Velotta. “She has turned up her level of play in recent games and it's no coincidence that the same thing has happened for the team.”

Bellarmine struck first in the 38th-minute when Jordan Major headed a corner kick off the foot of Alex Kowalski towards the goal which Naranjo headed back to the far post for the 1-0 lead. Just four minutes later Kowalski and Naranjo hooked up again to give the Knights a 2-0 cushion.

Even with a 2-0 lead, Bellarmine still had a game plan to execute with Drury featuring the conference's leading goal scorer in the form of striker Shelby Hatz. Leah Loven and the Knights' backline answered the challenge though, blanketing Hatz and affording her just two shots on the day.

Velotta noted that he was pleased with the play on both sides of the field, “This may have been our most complete game of the year. Drury is a solid team and everyone stepped up their game today.”

The win pushes Bellarmine's record to 8-2, 6-2 GLVC while keeping pace with GLVC leaders Rockhurst and William Jewell.  Drury falls to 6-4-1 on the year, 4-4-1 in the conference.

The Knights will stay at home at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium the rest of the weekend by hosting Missouri S&T on Sunday at noon.
