Knights travel to South Carolina for games at Limestone, Converse

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—After going 2-1 last week playing in the Carolinas, the Bellarmine field hockey team returns to that area of the country for a pair of games this weekend.

On Friday, the Knights face perhaps their sternest test of the year as they take on the undefeated and eighth-ranked Limestone Saints in an Eastern College Athletic Conference game at 7 p.m. in Gaffney, South Carolina.

Bellarmine and Limestone have already played once this season.  In the first game at Frazier Stadium, the Knights had the Saints on the ropes with a 3-2 lead and less than five minutes remaining, but Limestone scored two late goals to pull out a 4-3 victory.

Overall, the Saints are 10-0 on the season with six ECAC wins.  Kate Remley, who had a hat trick against the Knights, continues to be the leading Limestone scorer with 13 goals and five assists.

After taking on the ECAC leaders, Bellarmine then will have less than 18 hours to get ready for a 1 p.m. game against Converse College. The good news for the Knights is that the Converse campus is just 20 miles from Limestone's.

The Valkyries come into the Bellarmine contest 0-9 on the season with their most recent outing a 4-0 home loss to Limestone on Wednesday. Converse has scored just five times in their nine games with Marina Montes-Nino knocking home two of the scores.

Bellarmine enters play this weekend 4-7 with a 3-3 mark in ECAC play.  Three Knights are tied for the team lead in goals scored with April Paulson, Elle Lichte and Carly Anson all notching four so far this season.  Defensively, Heather Gregory has logged every minute of all 11 games in goal for the Knights and has a .686 save percentage.  Helping Gregory swat shots this season has been Mary Ringwald with three defensive saves and Amber Hill with two.
