LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine Knights field hockey team returns to Owsley B. Frazier Stadium for a single home game this weekend when they host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at noon on Saturday.
The game marks the first home contest for Bellarmine since September 22, and the Knights will be anxious to get back the Clayton Field turf after going 0-5 on the road over that span. After starting the season an encouraging 5-1, the Knights are now 5-7.
The lack of offense is the primary concern for the Knights, who have managed just one goal in the last four games. While it is probably worth noting that two of the three recent shutouts came against teams currently ranked in the nation's top 10 (Limestone and Lindenwood), Bellarmine Coach Mark Blankenbaker would still like to see more intensity in the circle.
The opportunity to do just that may be in the offing on Saturday, as the Crusaders come in to the Saturday's game after surrendering 14 goals in their last two outings. Belmont Abbey fell 8-0 last Saturday to Limestone, and then dropped a 6-0 decision to Centre on Thursday.
The Crusaders are 3-6 on the season with wins coming against Newberry, Coker and Converse. Camrynn Aiello leads Belmont Abbey in scoring with three goals on the season, as the Crusaders have netted just 12 goals in their first nine games.
The Knights, who have tallied 20 goals through 12 contests, are led offensively by Mandi Isom with five goals on the year and Jillian Fazio with four. Merit Harris, meanwhile, has three goals and three assists and is the most active Knight on the season having taken 50 shots.
