LOUISVILLE, KY.—The Bellarmine field hockey team will close out its 2018 season with road games at Belmont Abbey and Newberry on Saturday and Sunday.
Both foes will be repeat opponents for the Knights, who defeated Belmont Abbey just two weeks ago but lost a 3-2 decision to the Wolves in September.
The Knights enter the weekend 7-8 on the season, so they need a sweep to finish the year with a winning record.
Bellarmine is coming off a thrilling 3-2 double overtime victory over Queens in a game that saw sophomore
Mandi Isom contribute to all three goals, scoring twice then delivering the game-winning assist to
Lindsay Reynolds.
The performance by Isom gave her a team-leading seven goals on the season. Reynolds is tied for second on the team with
Merit Harris and
Jillian Fazio with four goals apiece.
Defensively for the Knights, senior
Sara Wilder has come up with three defensive saves to lead the team while freshman
Breanna McWhorter and
Heather Gregory have been sharing time in the cage. Ironically, both goalkeepers have a save percentage of 67.9 on the season.
Belmont Abbey comes into Saturday's game 4-8 on the season. Since falling to the Knights 3-0 on Oct. 20, the Crusaders have played well, falling in overtime to No. 10 Limestone and defeating Newberry 2-1.
Newberry is 6-9 with its last action coming in the 2-1 loss to Belmont Abbey. The first contest between the Wolves and the Knights was a close affair with both teams taking 16 shots and both earning eight penalty corners. Bellarmine's
Alex Hill scored both of the Knights' goals in the contest.
