GEORGETOWN, Ky.--A day after tying her collegiate low round, Bellarmine sophomore
Olivia Pennybaker went two shots lower, firing a 76 today to win the Bluegrass Fall Classic by five shots at Cherry Blossom Golf Course. The Knights finished second in the four-team field after closing with a 326.
Pennybaker was in second place after a 78 in yesterday's opening round left her one shot behind host Georgetown's Baylee Salyers. However, the Bellarmine lefty was six shots better than Salyers in the final round as Pennybaker finished as the only player in the field to post two rounds in the 70s.
Five different Bellarmine players finished in the top 10 of the 27-player field, including
Kyleigh Leaf, who made her collegiate debut in the event and finished ninth after rounds of 86 and 84.
Caroline McCrorey took fifth place after back-to-back 82s with
Brooklynn DiPaolo finishing tied for sixth after a pair 84s.
Savannah Trussell claimed the 10th position with a final score of 172 (84-88). Meanwhile
Bailey Wiegandt competed as an individual and placed tied for 14th after rounds of 92 and 86.
Georgetown claimed the team title, by holding off Bellarmine in the final round. The Tigers opened with a 320 and closed 10 shots higher at 330. Bellarmine posted a first-round score of 328 and climbed within four shots of Georgetown with a closing 326 to finish at 654.
The Knights return to action Oct. 7 at the NKU Collegiate Classic.
