LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine women's golf coach Art Henry has retired during his 23rd season at the helm of the Knights, athletic director Scott Wiegandt announced today.

"In August of 2004, I received a call from Scott asking if I could help him out," Henry recollected. "The woman's golf coach had abruptly left her position and the season was to start in three weeks. I'm pretty sure that neither of us speculated that this 'help' would lead to 20-plus years!"

The former club maker and golf TV instructor turned head coach was the longest-tenured head coach at Bellarmine following the transition of men's soccer coach Tim Chastonay, who was hired in 1998, into an administrative role in November.

"I have known Art for several years. He is loyal, caring and just a good guy," said Wiegandt. "He has done a great job with our women's program, as evidenced by their academic achievement, success on the course and how much they thrive post-graduation. We are thankful for his investment in Bellarmine golf as a player and a coach. Thanks for everything, Art."

During Henry's coaching tenure, Bellarmine sent individuals to regional competition on four separate occasions. In 2013-14, the Knights had perhaps their best season under Henry, breaking the team scoring record by seven shots.

"I do want to express my thanks to the Bellarmine administration for all their help and support over the years," said Henry. "I have thoroughly enjoyed working for such a great university as Bellarmine. I want to let all the student-athletes who played for Bellarmine know how much I enjoyed watching them grow in their golf games and, just as importantly, in their endeavors after graduation."

Also during Henry's time at Bellarmine, the Knights annually boasted multiple WGCA All-American Scholars. Bellarmine has placed at least two players on that prestigious academic team virtually every year since 2008, including six each in three straight seasons from 2022 to 2025. He has also guided seven ASUN Honors Graduates since the school joined the league in 2020-21.

Henry was named head coach in 2004 after starring for the Knights men's team as a player during his collegiate days. He holds an esteemed spot in Bellarmine golf lore as one of the primary members on the Knights' undefeated team of 1970 that advanced to the NCAA Small College Championship.

In addition to coaching Bellarmine's golf program, Henry's career has always been heavily involved in the sport. He has been the Vice President of Marketing at Louisville Golf Club Company; the First Director of the Professional Clubmaker's Association; a club designer for Austad's Golf, Peerless Golf and Striker Golf; and a golf instructor known as "The Swing Doctor" on the television show Inside Kentuckiana Golf.

Henry earned both his bachelor's degree and his master's degree from Bellarmine.

"I've had a great run, great fun and hopefully made a positive contribution to the university at-large, and particularly the athletics program," Henry concluded.
