LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine field hockey is once again Carolina bound this weekend as the Knights visit Coker University and Newberry College for games on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday's visit to Hartsville, South Carolina features a matchup with Coker and the first-ever meeting between the Knights and Cobras in field hockey.
Although the schools have never met, they share many of the same opponents. In fact, seven common adversaries show up on both Bellarmine's and Coker's 2019 schedules: Newberry, Mount Olive, Belmont Abbey, Converse, Frostburg, Queens, and Limestone.
Both have had similar success as well. The Cobras are 9-6 on the season while Bellarmine also comes in three games over .500 at 8-5.
Britt Kabo paces the Cobra offense, totaling 27 points on 11 assists and eight goals on the season. Kelly Mason is tied with Kabo for the team lead in goals with eight, while Kelly Mason is second in scoring with seven goals and six assists. Defensively, Kelsey Gibbons patrols the cage for the Cobras and sports a 1.92 goals against average after shutting out Belmont Abbey in Coker's most recent outing.
On Sunday, the Knights get a chance to avenge this past Saturday's loss when they pay a visit to Newberry, South Carolina to take on the Wolves. In their most recent match, Newberry took a 2-1 decision over the Knights in Frazier Stadium last week when the Wolves scored 2:09 into overtime.
Newberry, which is 9-4 on the season, is led by Brady Keeler. The senior forward, who had a goal and an assist against Bellarmine, has seven goals and five assists on the season. Kristyna Oyola also has been a top producer for the Wolves with five goals and five assists on the year. Goalie Charlotte Bragard has logged the lion's share of the minutes for Newberry and sports a goals against average of 1.45 and a record of 8-3.
Bellarmine is coming into the road trip trying to rebound from a pair of extremely close losses. After falling in overtime to Newberry on Saturday, the Knights dropped an even closer game to Lindenwood on Saturday as the Lions won 4-3 in a shootout.
Merit Harris, who was recently named to the NFHCA Senior Game roster, continues to lead the Knights in scoring with 12 goals and three assists on the year. Other top scorers include

Alexa Rastigue and
Lindsay Reynolds with four goals apiece.
Cassidy Sweeney is the Knights' top distributor with six assists on the year.
Heather Gregory and
Breanna McWhorter continue to share minutes in goal, with Gregory getting the majority of the minutes and owning a 6-3 record.
