OWENSBORO, Ky.--
Corey Teaford continued his outstanding senior campaign on Monday, finishing tied for sixth in an extremely strong field at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational played at The Pearl Club on Sunday and Monday. The Bellarmine team also had a strong day, closing the tournament with its lowest round of the year--a three-under-par 285--to finish 12th in the field of 19.
Teaford, who has finished first, sixth, second, and sixth in his four tournaments this season, opened the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational by posting his lowest 18-hole score of his collegiate career, a 67 (-5) and followed that up with a 70 to finish at 137 (-7).Â
The Knights posted its first team score under par this season on Monday, as
Seth Phulpagar also was in red figures with a 71 today and
Jensen Klondike and
Billy Cason turned in even par rounds of 72. The 285 was a nine-stroke improvement on Bellarmine's opening round 294, but only allowed the Knights to climb one spot in the standings.
Scoring was extremely low in the tournament as most of the top teams in the Midwest and Central regions were drawn to the field because The Pearl Club will host the NCAA Regional in the spring. Central Missouri claimed the team title with a 36-hole total of 552, which is 24-under-par. The Mules were six shots clear of Maryville while Lindenwood took third at 561 (-15). Joe MacNeil of Lindenwood won medalist honors after rounds of 65 and 68 left him one shot ahead of Central Missouri's Nick Westrich.Â
The good news for Bellarmine is that all five players recorded at least one round of even par or better as
Shawn DeWeese carded a 72 in his opening round.Â
Bellarmine will close its fall season on Oct 13 and 14 at the Motor City Invitational, hosted by Wayne State at TPC of Michigan in Dearborn.Â
