LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine Lacrosse Coach
Andrew Whitley announced today that he has completed his coaching staff with the addition of
Nicholas Marks as defensive coordinator.
Marks comes to Bellarmine after most recently serving three years as the head coach of Whittier College (DIII) in California. Over his three years at the helm of the Poets he compiled an overall mark of 21-11 including a 13-3 record in 2019, which broke the school record for single season NCAA wins. This past spring, the Marks-led Poets had bolted out to a 3-0 start before the season was halted due to COVID-19.
"I'm very excited to bring Coach Marks into the fold," Whitley said. "He coached at an extraordinarily high level at Bucknell and his defenses were extremely consistent and very difficult to score on while he was there. His recent resurrection of Whittier College Lacrosse is also indicative of his ability to recruit at a national level and manage a diverse group of personalities. We are excited to have such a proven high-level addition to our staff!"
At Bellarmine, Marks will oversee the defensive unit and work in other areas of the program such as recruiting and scheduling.
"I would like to thank
Scott Wiegandt and
Andrew Whitley for this amazing opportunity," Marks said. "My family and I are truly excited to be a part of the Bellarmine University community. It is an honor to work with such a dedicated staff while supporting these student-athletes in achieving their goals on and off the field."
Prior to Whittier College Marks served as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for North Central College (Ill.) where the Cardinals finished 10-4. Before that he was an assistant coach at Bucknell University (2012-16) where he also served as the defensive coordinator.
Marks received his B.A. from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania with a double major in classics and history and is currently pursuing a master's in athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine.
As a player, Marks was a 4-year starter at midfield for Bucknell and was later a member of both the Major League Lacrosse and the National Lacrosse League.
