GENEVA, Ohio — Before the evening session of the second day of the DII NCAA Championships was canceled as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bellarmine University women's 400 medley relay team had secured an All-America placement.

In Thursday morning's prelims at SPIRE Institute, sophomore Maya Sorensen, junior Sophia Noren, sophomore Rachel Walker and senior Grace Roegner finished 12th in 3:46.00. That finish assured the quartet of second-team All-America accolades because they would have automatically placed in the required 9-16 range for the honor due to their prelims performance.

The foursome earned second-team All-America plaudits Wednesday in the 200 medley relay after placing 10th in the finals.

Following Thursday morning's session, the evening session, along with the rest of the NCAA Championships, was canceled due to the growing threat of the spread of COVID-19. With only prelims results and no finals results in several events including the 400 medley relay, it wasn't immediately clear how the NCAA would view the prelims results in an official capacity.

"I view it as if we finished 12th in the relay," Knights Coach John Brucato said. "It was a great final performance by Maya, Sophia, Rachel and Grace, and we were honored that Grace, our senior captain, was the last swimmer to represent Bellarmine in DII."

Sophomore Matthew Sims had been scheduled to compete today in the 200 butterfly, an event in which he took home first-team All-America recognition last season.
