LOUISVILLE, Ky. — All-Americans
Sophia Noren and
Maya Sorensen have been deemed team captains of the Bellarmine University women's swimming team, Head Coach
John Brucato announced Wednesday.
Noren, who specializes in the breaststroke, is entering her senior season at Bellarmine while Sorensen, whose primary disciplines are the butterfly and backstroke, is a junior.
"Sophia stands out for her fierce competitiveness and desire to lead her teammates. Her desire to push the physical and mental envelope is contagious," Brucato said. "Maya exhibits the willingness and patience to be a great teammate. She is also a great advocate for the well-being of her swimming family."
Noren and Sorensen were members of Bellarmine's 200 and 400 medley relay teams that earned second-team All-America honors in 2019-20. In addition, Noren garnered an All-America accolade in the 100 breaststroke to boost her program-best career All-America total to six. She was named a CSCAA first-team Scholar All-American. Noren and Sorensen have earned multiple Academic All-GLVC notices.
Bellarmine is entering its first season in Division I and is a member of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association.
