LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Twin sisters and rising sophomores Chloe and Lily Markey of the Bellarmine University women's soccer team have been selected to train for Costa Rica's Under 20 Women's National Team.

Costa Rica will be competing in three friendlies, including two against the U20 United States Women's National Team, at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in California. Costa Rica will face a UPSL team Friday and then square off with the U.S. on Sunday and Wednesday.

The Markey twins have dual citizenship, as their mom Nicole was born in Costa Rica. They were invited to train for the country's U20 National Team after Costa Rica Coach Jose Catoya observed video of them playing. Costa Rica will host this year's FIFA U20 Women's World Cup.

Last season at Bellarmine, Lily Markey appeared in all 19 games with 10 starts and logged 1,098 minutes in the midfield. She amassed at least 63 minutes in 10 games and registered 71 or more on seven occasions.

Chloe Markey appeared in 16 games with one start and logged 521 minutes in 2021 for the Knights. She tallied at least 33 minutes in eight games.

The Markey twins played high school soccer at Johns Creek in Georgia and won a 6A state championship their senior season.
