LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team will wrap up nonconference play when the Knights visit Chicago State for a 2 p.m. (ET) contest Sunday.
Bellarmine (0-3-3) and Chicago State (1-6) met last season in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. The Knights never trailed, going up 1-0 and 3-1 before pulling out a 3-2 victory. Returners
Grady Clark and
Zenia Nava scored two of the goals for Bellarmine.
Chicago State has lost two straight matches. The Cougars are coming off a 2-0 home loss Friday against Southern Indiana, a former longtime rival of Bellarmine in Division II's Great Lakes Valley Conference that transitioned to D1 this season.
Bellarmine entered weekend play ranked fifth in the ASUN in goals-against average (0.83). The Knights have allowed five goals in six matches and only once yielded more than one goal. The defense has posted two shutouts.
Bellarmine will look to build some momentum offensively against Chicago State that it can carry into ASUN play. The Knights have been shut out over their last three matches.
In Thursday's 1-0 loss to Miami (Ohio), freshman defender
Emily Passini made the first start of her collegiate career. Along with defender
Lily Wilson and forward
Lucy von Stefenelli, she is the third true freshman for Bellarmine to start a match this season. Additionally, midfielder
Alexa Orozco and defender
Sidney Rigsby are redshirt freshmen who have started every contest.
