Hendricks and Valle earn first ever MSFL weekly honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -  The Midwest Sprint Football League announced its first ever weekly honors on Tuesday, and Knights players took two of the three possible awards.

Bellarmine's Devan Hendricks picked up the league's first ever Defensive Player of the Week honor, while Ben Valle earned Special Teams Player of the Week.

Hendricks was fabulous for the Knights in their inaugural game on Saturday.  Along with recording a team-high nine tackles and three pass break-ups, Hendricks snatched two interceptions.  The second of which came at the goal line late in the fourth quarter with Midway up 15-14.  The interception helped Bellarmine hold off the Eagles and set up a game-winning field goal later in the quarter.  Hendricks also rushed for 62 yards as a running back in the winning effort.  Jaree Jones of Quincy and Jonah Kile of Midway were the other nominees for Defensive Player of the Week.

Valle kicked the game-winning 33-yard field goal with 44 seconds remaining.  He also converted on both of his extra point attempts, which proved to be critical in a two-point victory.  Justin White of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and Jared Saez of Calumet College were also nominated.

Bellarmine's next game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Saint Xavier High School.  The Knights host Fontbonne in their first ever home game.  All the action can be viewed on BU Knights Sports Network.
