Men's soccer's Kirn recognized as ASUN Defensive Player of the Week

ATLANTA — For the second straight week, three new student-athletes claimed first career ASUN Conference men's soccer weekly honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Davi Alves became the second FGCU student-athlete to capture the Player of the Week award this season following his three-point performance in the Eagles victory against Liberty. Jackson Kirn led a Bellarmine defensive line to a pair of shutouts and claimed his first career Defensive award. Christian Sekanina was named Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time in Jacksonville program history following his first career clean sheet victory. 

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jackson Kirn, Bellarmine
Senior | Defender | Lexington, Ky.

- First Career ASUN Defensive Player of the Week selection; first of the season for BU & fourth honor in program history
- Led a Bellarmine backline to two consecutive shutouts against Purdue-Fort Wayne and Jacksonville
- Played in all 180 minutes for a defensive unit that allowed just four total shots on-goal on the week 
- Has not left the field for the Knights this season, playing all 720 available minutes
- Bellarmine's defense is fourth in the league allowing 1.25 goals per contest after posting its first two shutouts of the season

Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Davi Alves, FGCU

Senior | Forward | Belo Horizonte, Brazil
- First Career ASUN Player of the Week award; 26th award in FGCU program history
- Scored a goal and added an assist against Liberty, helping the Eagles pick up their first ASUN win
- Rocketed his first goal of the match (third of the season) in the 53rd minute to tie the score at 1-1
- Aided Jovoney Brown with the game-winning goal in the 66th minute
- Led all players in the match with five shots and three on-goal in the victory 

Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week
Christian Sekanina, Jacksonville
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Ainring, Germany

- First Career ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week accolade; inaugural GK award in Jacksonville program history
- Posted his first career shutout in Jacksonville's 3-0 victory versus Georgia Southern
- Stopped five shots and posted a .833 save percentage on the week highlighted by four saves in the win over the Eagles
- Tallied six saves in net facing 14 shots while playing the full 90 minutes
- Sits second in the league with 20 saves on the season
