LOUISVILLE, Ky.
- After week two of the Midwest Sprint Football League season, Bellarmine brought home more weekly awards.
Bellarmine's
Brenden Reid earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor, while
Corbin Barnett was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Devan Hendricks won Defensive Player of the Week and
Ben Valle was named Special Teams Player of the Week after week one.
Reid rushed for 118 yards on 17 carries (average of seven yards per carry) this past Saturday versus Fontbonne. His most critical run came at the end of the game with Bellarmine up 14-6 and under one minute remaining. The Knights had 3rd down and 6 from their own five yard-line - Reid powered through the line and broke away for a 64-yard run to seal the victory. While he was awarded for his offensive efforts, Reid also had a key interception just a few moments before his big run to set up the final possession. Reid has now rushed for over 90 yards in each of his first two career games.
Barnett came up with an interception as well but was rewarded for his special teams efforts. Barnett blocked two Fontbonne punts in the first half and nearly had another blocked punt in the second half. His consistent attack off the edge helped stave off the Griffins and keep the game scoreless through the first two quarters.
Bellarmine's next game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET (1:00 p.m. CT) on Saturday at Quincy.
