LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University track and field had multiple top finishes and broke multiple program records as the Knights hosted the Bellarmine Open on Friday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
Reigning ASUN co-Freshman of the Week
Jackson Gordon placed first in the men's 800 while setting a new freshman program record after finishing in 1:53.25, which bested the 1:56.15 of Joey Blue that had stood since 2008. Only three meets into the season, Gordon has achieved freshman records in the 200, 400, 500 and 800.
After breaking the 3000 freshman program record in last week's Cardinal Classic,
Paul Stamm set a new benchmark in the freshman mile after placing fourth in 4:11.70.
Nolan Hester had set the previous record (4:16.91) last season at the same meet.
Junior
Ike Boling, sophomore
Trevor Holbrook, Gordon and senior
Ryan Hawkins took first in the 4x400 in 3:19.78, which threatened the program record of 3:17.45 established in 2013. Holbrook also placed first in the 400 (49.23) while Boling was the runner-up and Hawkins finished sixth.
Freshman
Sloan Cox earned top honors in the shot put (15.93). Freshman
Alex Cole placed eighth in that event and fourth in the weight throw. Hester was the runner-up in the 800, junior
Nick Lewis was sixth in the mile and sophomore
Jackson Gawarecki finished seventh in the 3000.
Bellarmine's women also captured first in the 4x400 relay as senior
Katrina Kamarute, sophomore
Naimah Slaughter, junior
Avery Hedden and sophomore
Chloe Freilinger finished in 3:52.71.
Freilinger took top honors as well in the 400 (55.60) while Kamarute placed third and Hedden ninth. Slaughter added a fourth in the long jump, and sophomore
Taylor White was eighth in the 3000.
Freshman
Avery Koch was the runner-up in the shot put, and sophomore
Lauren DeBold placed sixth in the weight throw.
The Knights will host the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic on Feb. 3 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
