LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University track and field kick-started its indoor season in earnest by hosting the Bellarmine Open on Friday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
One of the top individual battles came in the men's 800 between Bellarmine athletes, as junior
Nolan Hester (1:52.54) edged sophomore
Jackson Gordon (1:52.75) at the wire. In addition to claiming the top-2 spots, sophomore
Alex Hooten was fourth and senior
Ike Boling was eighth in the event.
Junior
Chloe Freilinger made it a Knights sweep in the 800, taking the women's gold in 2:13.59. Freilinger also teamed with junior
Avery Hedden, junior
Naimah Slaughter and freshman
Annie Somwe to earn runner-up honors in the 4x400 relay.
Bellarmine secured three of the top-6 spots in the women's shot put, as sophomore
Alysia Hurtado placed third, sophomore
Avery Koch took fourth and freshman
Haden Wolfe finished sixth. Hurtado added an eighth in the weight throw.
Junior
D.K. Schnieders placed fifth in the men's 3000, as did sophomore
Zac Hutslar in the triple jump.
Bellarmine will compete next Friday and Saturday at the University of Louisville's Cardinal Classic, which is also held at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
