LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University track and field set four new program records as Knights competed Friday and Saturday in Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge and Grand Valley State's pair of GVSU Big Meets.
After rewriting the men's program records in the 200 and 400 the previous week,
Jackson Gordon established new marks in the 600 and 800 at the Music City Challenge. The sophomore's 1:17.71 was good for second place in the 600 and broke the longstanding 1:20.84 of Michael Cowherd from 1982. His 1:51.65 in the seeded 800 bested his own 1:52.53.
Chloe Freilinger also rewrote a long-held program record in the women's 600 at the Music City Challenge. The junior's 1:32.51 topped the 1:37.68 of Kelsey Love from the 2010 Indiana Invitational and was good for fourth place.
Haden Wolfe added to the theme at the GVSU Big Meet. Her 14.76-meter toss in the weight throw bested the previous freshman program record of 14.39 set by Courtney McIntyre at the 2013 DePauw Tiger Invitational. Wolfe placed ninth in the event, and sophomore teammate
Alysia Hurtado was fourth.
At the Music City Challenge, junior
Paul Stamm placed ninth and sophomore
Chase Atkins was 10th in the 5000. Senior
Ike Boling took seventh in the seeded 400 while junior
D.K. Schnieders placed in the top half of the 3000 in 12th and sophomore
Zander Hooten did as well in the qualifying round of the 60 hurdles after taking 10th.
At the GVSU Big Meets, Hurtado placed ninth and sophomore
Avery Koch was 12th in the women's shot put. Sophomore
Ahmya Baker finished in the upper half of the long jump (17th), as did junior
Avery Hedden in the 400 (20th) and 60 (35th).
Freshman
Chase Austin was sixth and freshman
Jimmy Dillabaugh was 17th in the men's mile, and freshman
James Bronzwaig also placed in the upper tier of the weight throw (23rd).
Bellarmine will compete Feb. 23-24 in the ASUN Indoor Championship in Alachua County, Florida.
