Women's soccer braces for huge week at home to conclude regular season

Knights to host Lipscomb, Austin Peay while seeking to earn ASUN Champs bid

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In contention for an ASUN Championship berth, the Bellarmine University women's soccer team will conclude the regular season with a pair of home games, as the Knights will welcome ASUN Gold Division champion Lipscomb at 7 p.m. (ET) Wednesday before hosting Austin Peay at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Unbeaten in conference play, Lipscomb (11-3-2, 7-0-1 ASUN) has clinched the Gold Division title and a berth in the ASUN Championship. The Bisons (22 points in league play) are the lone team in the division to have been announced as having sewed up an ASUN postseason berth, although it does appear mathematically that second place Eastern Kentucky (14 pts) is in — the Colonels seemingly can finish no lower than fourth, and four teams from each division qualify.

With two regular-season games remaining, Bellarmine is in fifth place in the Gold Division with 9 points. However, it's essential to note that third place North Alabama (12 pts) and fourth place Central Arkansas (11 pts) only have one conference game left — and it's against each other on Saturday — while the four other teams in the division have two. Austin Peay (2 pts; 0-11-5, 0-6-2) is in sixth place.

KNIGHTS NOTES
• Bellarmine is meeting Lipscomb and Austin Peay in the latter half of their respective home-and-home series this season. The Knights opened ASUN play on the road against them, recording a 2-1 victory over the Governors before falling 2-0 to the Bisons.
• Bellarmine remained firmly in contention for an ASUN Championship berth with a timely 1-0 road win Sunday at North Alabama. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Knights, who delivered a resilient performance after having fallen late in their previous two setbacks (EKU's game-winning goal came in the 86th minute, and UCA's came in the 83rd minute).
• Ironically, Bellarmine either equaled or outshot its opponents in all five of its ASUN losses, while the Knights were actually outshot in two of their three conference wins.
• With the victory over North Alabama, Bellarmine added to its Division I-era program record for total wins with nine and for road wins with six, both in the first season under head coach Steve Bornhoffer. The Knights also had a D1-era program-record nine-game unbeaten streak earlier this season.
• Freshman midfielder Nora Dimmitt delivered the game-winning goal against North Alabama in the 66th minute. It was her second goal of the season.
• Forward McKenzie Carle, the reigning ASUN Freshman of the Year, ranks fourth in the conference in goals (eight) and is tied for fifth in points (18). She's tied for third in total shots with teammate and senior forward Lucy von Stefenelli (50 apiece). von Stefenelli is tied for third in shots on goal (23) while Carle is tied for sixth (19).
