Women's soccer to travel to EKU in 1st of 2 straight games against Colonels

10/3/2025 7:53:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team will face Eastern Kentucky the first of two straight times in Atlantic Sun Conference play when the Knights visit the Colonels for a 1 p.m. (ET) contest Sunday.

The ASUN instituted intra-divisional play only in the regular season this year, with divisional teams playing each other twice in a home-and-home format. That resulted in a scheduling quirk between Bellarmine (8-2-2, 2-2 ASUN) and Eastern Kentucky (7-2-3, 2-1-1), as the Gold Division counterparts will play on consecutive weekends. BU will turn around and host EKU on Sunday, Oct. 12.

ABOUT EASTERN KENTUCKY
Eastern Kentucky is off to a strong start in ASUN play. The Colonels earned three points apiece after notching 1-0 wins over Austin Peay and Central Arkansas while garnering another point with a scoreless draw against North Alabama. Their one conference setback was a 2-0 loss to Lipscomb. Ella Grode has tallied a team-high six goals. Five other Colonels have notched two goals apiece.

KNIGHTS NOTES
• Eastern Kentucky holds a 2-1-1 series lead over Bellarmine in the D1 era, including a 3-1 win over the Knights last season in Richmond. However, the teams are 1-1 against each other in Richmond in the D1 era, with BU claiming a 1-0 victory in 2021.
• Bellarmine is 5-1 on the road this season, with the lone road loss to Lipscomb, 2-0, in its previous ASUN contest away from Frazier Stadium. The Knights' five road wins are easily a D1-era program record, after BU recorded six total road wins over the previous five seasons combined.
• Bellarmine's eight total wins are also comfortably a D1-era program record. The previous high was five set last season. In addition, the Knights established a new D1-era record for unbeaten streak (nine, first nine games of 2025), all in the first season under head coach Steve Bornhoffer.
• Bellarmine split its two ASUN games last week at home. The Knights topped North Alabama 1-0 before falling 3-1 to Central Arkansas. The latter is the most goals they've conceded this season and marked just the second time they've allowed more than one goal (two at Lipscomb) this year.
McKenzie Carle scored the game-winning goal against North Alabama in the 89th minute. The sophomore forward followed by accounting for the team's lone goal against Central Arkansas. Carle, the reigning ASUN Freshman of the Year, has a team-high seven goals this year, which rank third in the conference, and her 13 career goals are already a D1-era program record.
• Bellarmine has two players who have amassed at least five goals this season. In addition to Carle, senior forward Lucy von Stefenelli has notched five, matching her total from last season.
• Bellarmine's defense ranks second in the ASUN in GAA (0.83).
Anna Jenkins is a two-time ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week this season. The redshirt freshman ranks third in the ASUN in GAA (0.91) and save percentage (.846).
