LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Junior
Jackson Gordon placed first in the men's 400-meter preliminaries to highlight Bellarmine University track and field's performance on the opening day of the Knights-hosted ASUN Indoor Championship.
Gordon advanced to the finals at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center after topping the 400 prelims in 47.84, which threatened his own program record in the event (47.46).
Bellarmine's men accrued six points and the Knights women collected three, as the first day of the conference meet was vastly comprised of prelims.
Freshman
Will Bracher earned two points after placing seventh in the men's weight throw (16.19), and junior
Chase Atkins added another after finishing eighth in the 5000 (14:15.63). The distance medley relay team of sophomore
Chase Austin, sophomore
Carter Olmsted, freshman
Ben Hunter and senior
Nolan Hester tallied three more after placing sixth (10:30.19).
Junior
Alysia Hurtado secured two points in the women's weight throw (16.00) after landing seventh. The DMR team of freshman
Ginger Atzinger, sophomore
Raven Payne, junior
Jansen Story and junior
Sierra Oesterling claimed a point after finishing eighth (12:27.92).
In addition to Gordon on the men's side, sophomores
Clinton Bass and
Carter Olmsted advanced to the finals in the 60 hurdles after placing fifth (8.34) and eighth (8.57), respectively, in the prelims.
Juniors
Zac Hutslar and
Alex Hooten both claimed a seventh place in the prelims to advance to the finals, with Hutlar's coming in the 200 (21.91) and Hooten's in the 800 (1:51.82).
Friday is the second and final day of the ASUN Indoor Championship.
