T&F to host Jim Vargo Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University track and field is set to host athletes from 13 universities Friday and Saturday at the annual Jim Vargo Invitational at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Bellarmine has been nothing short of snakebitten — if not cursed — in terms of having a long history of poor weather on the days of its outdoor home meets. Like clockwork, the forecast for the latest iteration is unfavorable yet again, but Vargo and the Knights intend to soldier on despite being dealt another hand of rotten luck by Mother Nature.

Set to join Bellarmine are athletes from Louisville, Campbellsville, Eastern Kentucky, Hanover, Midway, Morehead State, Spalding, Trevecca Nazarene, Transylvania, Illinois Springfield, Vincennes, Wright State and Xavier.

On Friday, the field events are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. (ET) and the track events at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, the field events are slated to start at 10 a.m. and the track events at noon. Bellarmine will also celebrate Senior Day, with the ceremony scheduled for 11:15 a.m.

The namesake of the meet, Jim Vargo, is the most prominent figure in the history of the Bellarmine cross country and track and field programs. He's a Bellarmine Athletic Hall of Famer who was a standout distance runner as an athlete with the Knights and is now in his second stint as the director of men's and women's cross country and track & field.
