LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Despite being weather-shortened, Bellarmine University track and field captured several top placements in the Knight-hosted
Jim Vargo Invitational.
Originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the second day of the meet was canceled due to persistent inclement weather, a seemingly annual occurrence on the weekend that Bellarmine hosts its outdoor meet.
Before finally having to bend to the will of Mother Nature, the
Jim Vargo Invitational unfolded Friday, with Bellarmine producing several top finishes: sophomore
Raven Payne in the women's 100 (13.02), sophomore
Annie Somwe in the 400 (58.52), senior
Justice Pohlman-Singleton in the 10000 (38:14.39) and sophomore
Amelia Svidal in the long jump (5.50).
Senior
Hannah Ellis was the runner-up in the 10000 (39:12.69), senior
Jansen Story was third in the 400 (59.74) and junior
Alysia Hurtado ranked third among college-attached competitors in the hammer throw (45.82).
Among college-affiliated competitors, junior
Alex Hooten placed first in the men's 1500, and his 3:50.92 approached program record-holder Robert Sandlin's 3:48.42 from the 2013 Bellarmine Classic. Junior
Chase Atkins was close behind in third (3:52.51).
Sophomore
Alex Cole had the top heave in the hammer throw (55.02) while sophomore
