JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Chase Atkins put a Bellarmine University track and field stamp on the ASUN Outdoor Championship on the first day of the meet.

Atkins on Thursday evening earned a silver medal in the men's 10000m in 30:18.88, pushing to runner-up honors and second-team All-ASUN status in the event at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Atkins secured the Bellarmine men's third-ever silver medal at the ASUN Outdoor Championships following Jackson Gordon in 2023 (400m) and Sloan Cox in 2024 (shot put). He racked up eight points with his second-place finish.

Bellarmine had an exceptional combined effort in the hammer throw, where three Knights hurlers scored. Sophomore James Bronzwaig took fifth (51.18m, 4 pts), sophomore Alex Cole secured sixth (49.90m, 3 pts) and freshman Will Bracher was eighth (48.70m, 1 pt).

In Thursday prelim action, junior Zac Hutslar (21.47) qualified for the finals in the 200m while junior Zander Hooten (54.22) and freshman James Noble (57.51) qualified in the 400 hurdles.

The three-day ASUN Outdoor Championship runs through Saturday.
