JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
Chase Atkins put a Bellarmine University track and field stamp on the ASUN Outdoor Championship on the first day of the meet.
Atkins on Thursday evening earned a silver medal in the men's 10000m in 30:18.88, pushing to runner-up honors and second-team All-ASUN status in the event at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Atkins secured the Bellarmine men's third-ever silver medal at the ASUN Outdoor Championships following
Jackson Gordon in 2023 (400m) and
Sloan Cox in 2024 (shot put). He racked up eight points with his second-place finish.
Bellarmine had an exceptional combined effort in the hammer throw, where three Knights hurlers scored. Sophomore
James Bronzwaig took fifth (51.18m, 4 pts), sophomore
Alex Cole secured sixth (49.90m, 3 pts) and freshman
Will Bracher was eighth (48.70m, 1 pt).
In Thursday prelim action, junior
Zac Hutslar (21.47) qualified for the finals in the 200m while junior
Zander Hooten (54.22) and freshman
James Noble (57.51) qualified in the 400 hurdles.
The three-day ASUN Outdoor Championship runs through Saturday.
