JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
Amelia Svidal has made an indelible mark on Bellarmine University track and field history.
On the final day of the outdoor conference meet, Svidal produced a groundbreaking achievement, as the Knights sophomore became Bellarmine's first-ever gold-medal winner at an ASUN Championship after winning the women's triple jump at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Svidal entered the meet ranked fifth in the ASUN in the event. She pulled off a stunner after soaring 11.95 meters, a distance that broke her own previous program record of 11.72. Svidal was rewarded with 10 points for her top finish.
Bellarmine had a second medal winner Saturday. Sophomore
Alex Cole garnered a bronze in the men's discus after placing third with a 48.70-meter heave. He registered six points with his performance.
Junior
Chase Atkins placed fifth in the 5000m (14:41.50, 4 pts), as did junior
Alex Hooten in the 800m (1:51.13, 4 pts). Sophomore
James Bronzwaig took sixth in the javelin (48.09, 3 pts), a placement matched by junior
Zander Hooten in the 110 hurdles (14.60, 3 pts) and freshman
James Noble in the 400 hurdles (56.82, 3 pts).
Junior
Zac Hutslar scored in the 100m after placing seventh (10.97, 2 pts), as did freshman
Grant King in the 400m after placing eighth (50.32, 1 pt).
Bellarmine's men amassed 60 points while the Knights women tallied 17. Central Arkansas swept the men's and women's team titles.
