GENEVA, N. Y.--- Hoping to play the spoiler role on National TV, the Bellarmine University lacrosse team will travel to Geneva, NY on Saturday night to take on the Hobart College Statesman in Eastern College Athletic Conference action.
Bellarmine (4-8, 0-3 ECAC) is looking to halt a two game losing streak after dropping games against Fairfield and Air Force in the past two weeks. While competitive in both games, they could not convert opportunities down the stretch to get the win.
Attacking in waves, Bellarmine has is led by four double digit goal scorers this season:
Cameron Gardner (15 goals),
Austin Bright (15 goals),
Luke Acton (13 goals), and
Will Cary (11 goals). The foursome has accounted for 42% of the Knights goals this season. Acton has been particularly hot recently as he has scored two goals apiece in his last four games.
Saturday night will represent Senior Day for Hobart as the Statesmen (4-6, 1-3 ECAC) will have extra motivation to send out their seniors with a victory. The man that may have the most to say about that is senior goalkeeper Evan Kirk, who has started every game this season and is stopping 52.2% of the shots he sees.
Coach Bart Sullivan will need his defenders to key in on Hobart's Sam Miller, the attackmen has been lethal so far this season, scoring 21 goals in just 10 games. Last time out, Air Force's Vinny Santorv lit up the Bellarmine defense as he scored five goals on ten shots.
The Knights own the only victory in this series, a 10-5 victory last season on April 17 behind two goals apiece from
Derek Hopcroft,
Shane Andersen, and
Alex Porter.
The game, beginning at 7 p.m. will be played under the lights at Boswell Field and televised nationally on Fox College Sports and on ESPN3.com. In the Louisville area and throughout Kentucky, the game will be carried by Wazoo Sports (Louisville channel 11.3 and Insight channel 524).
