LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Looking to rebound after suffering their first loss of the season at Loyola 8-6, the Bellarmine Knights (3-1, 1-1 ECAC) will take the field against the University of Detroit Mercy Titans on Tuesday.
Despite the tough loss on Saturday, coach
Kevin Burns knows the Knights will come out ready to play against the Titans. "We feel as if we let one slip away on Saturday against Loyola, but that has fired up our guys and motivated them to get back to winning."
The Titans sit at 0-4 on the season with losses against Ohio State, Navy, Robert Morris and Quinnipiac and will be hungry to claim their first win of the season against the Knights.
The Titans are led by a duo of ten goal scorers, juniors Shayne Adams (10g, 2a) and Alex Maini (10g, 5a), who have both found their way onto the scoresheet in every game this season. Adams, an attackman from St. Catharines, Ontario, is also on the Tewaarton Award watch list for 2013.
Last season the Knights escaped Detroit with a 9-8 comeback win against the Titans. Bellarmine roared back from an 8-4 deficit by scoring five times in the game's last 4:05. The run was capped off by
Jordan Wong's game-winner with 12 seconds to play.
Bellarmine has benefitted this year from a variety of players contributing on the offensive end. The Knights have eight players that have found the back of the net at least twice this season, but are being led by
Cameron Gardner (11g, 2a) and
Michael Ward (7g, 3a), each averaging more than three points per game.
Faceoff will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday March 5th at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville.
