Knights to host Air Force on Saturday

3/7/2013 11:36:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday the Bellarmine University lacrosse team will match-up with ECAC foe Air Force. The Knights (4-1, 1-1 ECAC) will faceoff with the Falcons (4-2, 0-0 ECAC) in Air Force's first Eastern College Athletic Conference contest of the season.

The Falcons come into Saturday's game with wins over High Point, Rutgers, Canisius and Lehigh, but are coming off of an 8-6 loss to Marquette in their last outing. Air Force also played perennial power North Carolina early in the season and suffered a 16-8 defeat at the hands of the Tar Heels.

Air Force will certainly come out hungry in hopes of claiming their first ECAC win of the season, and Coach Kevin Burns knows this will be a tough game for the Knights. “Air Force is an experienced team with good shooters that get up and down the field. Our defense will have to continue their great play to shut down the Air Force offense.”

The Falcons return all three starting attackmen from last season, including sophomore Keith Dreyer (4g 10a) who was named a preseason honorable mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse. In 2012 Dreyer led the Falcons in point production, scoring 19 goals and dishing out 27 helpers on the year.

Up front with Dreyer are a duo of junior attackmen, Mike Crampton (14g 6a) and Tommy McKee (19g). Crampton and McKee are carrying most of the offensive load for Air Force so far the season, the two have combined to score 33 of Air Force's 64 goals on the season.

Last season at Air Force the Knights got out to an early lead but fell to the Falcons by a score of 8-12, thanks in large part to a seven point day from McKee (5g 2a).

After taking a 2-1 deficit into the second quarter, the Falcon's offense came alive and was able to net five second quarter goals to take a comfortable 6-2 lead over BU at halftime.

Although Bellarmine was able to score six second half goals, Air Force matched the Knights every step of the way tallying six goals themselves to keep the final margin at four.

Faceoff will be at noon on Saturday Mar. 9 at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville.
