Bellarmine suffers 3-6 setback to No. 22 Southern Indiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Bellarmine University men's tennis team fought hard but fell to the 22nd-ranked Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 3-6 in a conference match on Saturday morning at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

"We started slowly in the doubles match but realized we could play with the highly ranked USI team, which gave us confidence," said head coach John Mican. "I was encouraged by how hard the guys fought today.

Jose Legarreta won both his singles and doubles matches and Zach Kuo played great tennis at the number one singles spot but just came up short. Jimmy Fernandez dropped only three games in singles at number five.

"We can definitely build on our effort from today," said Mican.

Bellarmine falls to 5-6 on the season.

The Knights' scheduled match at Hanover College on Sunday, March 23 will be postponed until a later date due to cold weather when the Hanover men and women will come to Bellarmine. On Saturday, March 28, Bellarmine will travel to the University of Illinois Springfield for a 2 p.m. match.
