Bellarmine loses to Lewis 4-5

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Bellarmine University men's tennis team lost a Great Lakes Valley Conference battle to the Lewis University Flyers, 4-5, on senior day Saturday morning at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

Prior to taking the court, the Knights honored senior Chip Jabaley, who is the lone senior on Bellarmine's squad. After the ceremony, Jabaley got the day off as both his singles and doubles opponents forfeited their matches, giving Jabaley two wins without even having to make a serve.

Both the other doubles matchups went to the visitors. However, Bellarmine fought back in singles competition. Nathan Walroth won a 6-4, 6-2 match over Chris Jastrab of Lewis and Alan Gardiner won a long 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 match against Philip Kuenzi.

However, in the end, Lewis was too much and came away with the 5-4 win.

The Knights fall to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC.

Bellarmine will head to Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind. on April 11 and will then make three more road stops before GLVC postseason play begins.
