Knights, Vikings to meet Saturday at Cleveland State's Krenzler Dome

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Playing under the roof of the Krenzler Dome, it's a safe bet this year's Bellarmine-Cleveland State lacrosse game won't experience a snow delay like last year's contest that was played in Bellarmine's Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

However, the Knights will be hoping for a similar outcome to last season's matchup.  After the game the was delayed by more than an hour to clear snow from the field, Bellarmine needed just seven seconds to reach the scoring column with Luke Legnard getting the early goal.  From there, the Knights went on to post a 13-9 victory.

This season, both teams enter with 0-2 records.  Bellarmine fell 7-6  in overtime to Wagner in its season opener, then were victimized by a quick start by No. 19  Marquette as the Golden Eagles took a 15-9 decision.

Cleveland State, meanwhile, has a pair of close losses to top 20 teams.  The Vikings dropped their season opener at No. 15 Ohio State by a 12-9 count and were bested 10-8 by No. 20 Michigan.

Through the first two games this season, the Knights' offense is being led by junior captain Morgan Macko, who's registered three goals and handed out three assists. Bellarmine's leading goal scorer is Landon Trout with four on the year.  Matching Macko with three goals are Stephen Votto and Riley Seay.

The Vikings' top scorer is Michael Wilson with a pair of goals and three assists while Tristen Copeland has chalked up three goals in the first two games.

In goal, Bellarmine's Ian Reilly has made both starts for the Knights and has 14 saves, but Jordan Dondoyano made a strong case for more playing time in the Marquette game by making 10 saves in 45 minutes of action.

Cleveland State has split time between two goalies evenly over the first two games. Caleb Espinoza has started both games for the Vikings and has 13 saves while Stephen Russo also has 60 minutes between the pipes with 11 saves.

At the faceoff position, J.T. Simonton has won 20 of 39 for the Knights while Danny Tesler has taken all 45 of the Cleveland State faceoffs, winning 25.

A webcast of Saturday's game, which is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start, will not be available, but fans can follow live stats here.
