Knights return to Frazier Stadium to host Detroit Mercy on Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After three straight weeks on the road, the Bellarmine Knights lacrosse team returns home to Owsley B. Frazier Stadium this Saturday to take on the Detroit Mercy Titans in a 1 p.m. contest.

In last season's matchup, Detroit Mercy jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated Bellarmine 11-5. Bellarmine won 12 of 20 faceoffs but was outshot by Detroit Mercy 35-26. Despite last season's loss, the Knights still hold a 5-4 all-time record against the Titans.

Bellarmine will continue to seek their first win of the season on Saturday in front of the home crowd after dropping their first four games against Wagner, Marquette, Cleveland State, and Robert Morris.

Detroit Mercy will enter Saturday with a record of 2-1. The Titans have defeated Jacksonville and Marquette in close matchups. Their only loss came at the hands of top-20 team Notre Dame.

The duo of junior Morgan Macko and freshman Riley Seay lead the Knights offensively with seven goals apiece on the season. The duo combined for six goals last week against Robert Morris, with Seay netting four and Macko scoring two. There is also a tie among assist leaders for Bellarmine as Macko and sophomore Landon Trout have each assisted on four goals.

The Titans are led offensively by Matthew Vangalen who leads the team with seven goals and three assists. Goals have been distributed evenly among the Titans roster as three other players have netted five goals apiece.

Junior Jordan Dondoyano has started the last two games in goal for Bellarmine and has tallied a total of 38 saves in those two contests.  On the year, he is averaging 16 per game, which ranks third in the nation. Senior Josh Wehn continues to wreak havoc on the defensive end by causing seven turnovers and tallying 11 ground balls on the season.

In goal for Detroit Mercy is Logan Shamblin. Shamblin has played every minute of the Titan's first three games this year and has accumulated a total of 33 saves, while allowing 39 goals.

At the faceoff positon, Bellarmine's J.T. Simonton and Detroit Mercy's Alex Jarzembowski have taken the bulk of the faceoffs for their respective teams. Simonton has won 34 of 83 faceoffs, while Jarzembowski has won 44 of 77.
