LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine lacrosse team will look to breathe new life into its season on Saturday as the Knights open Southern Conference play at home against the Jacksonville Dolphins.
Bellarmine (0-6) has lost back-to-back one-goal games that have gone down to the wire. A 14-15 loss to Detroit Mercy on March 2 was followed by a 9-10 loss to Utah last week. The Knights have had the lead at some point in four of their six games so far this season but have been unable to hang on and seal a victory.
Jacksonville (1-6) has played a tough schedule thus far with three of their losses coming against teams ranked in the top four at the time of the game (#1 Towson, #2 Duke, and #4 Penn State). Like Bellarmine, Jacksonville has lost several close games including one-goal losses to Detroit Mercy and Michigan. The Dolphins' lone win of the season came at the hands of Drexel.
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the two schools. Jacksonville has been victorious the last two years, but Bellarmine still holds a 4-2 all-time lead in the series.
For the Knights, sophomore
Landon Trout is coming off a hat-trick performance against Utah where he netted three goals on nine shots. Trout is the leading assist man for the Knights on the year and is second on the team in points (16).
Riley Seay looks to continue his outstanding freshman campaign as he has tallied a team-high 14 goals and 18 points. Senior
Ian Miller has also been a key contributor offensively for Bellarmine, specifically the last two games in which he has racked up four goals and two assists.
The Dolphins are led offensively by Jack Dolan who has a team-high 27 points on 15 goals and 12 assists. Evan Tyler is the leading scorer for Jacksonville with 16 goals and Eric Applegate is the leading assist man with 13 assists on the season.
Defensively,
Jordan Dondoyano continues to be a force in goal for the Knights with 80 saves on the year. He ranks second in the nation with 15.6 saves per game. Sophomore
Jon Robbins looks to build on his breakout game last week at Utah in which he caused four turnovers and added four ground balls.
Dixon Smith is the anchor defensively for Jacksonville. He leads the team with 14 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls. In goal for the Dolphins is Hunter Sells who has started all seven games and accumulated 67 saves on the season.
Opening face-off will be at noon ET at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
