Knights to close out season at Air Force

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Knights lacrosse team will conclude the regular season this weekend as they travel west to take on Air Force in a Southern Conference showdown.

Bellarmine (3-9, 3-3 SoCon) had a three-game win streak snapped this past weekend after a heartbreaking 15-16 loss to No. 11 High Point, which eliminated the Knights from Southern Conference Championship contention.

Air Force (9-4, 5-1 SoCon) is currently sitting at second in the Southern Conference standings. The Falcons clinched a berth in the Southern Conference Championship semifinals after defeating VMI 12-5 last weekend.

In last season's matchup between these two schools the game was tied at 3-3 going into halftime, but Air Force used a third quarter run to take the lead and held off a late Bellarmine push to secure a 9-7 win.

Offensively, Bellarmine has played very well down the stretch, netting 13 or more goals in each of its last four games. Riley Seay increased his goal count to a team-high 28 after a hat trick against High Point. Joining him with a hat trick on Saturday was Morgan Macko who is second on the team with 20 goals and 34 points. Stephen Votto and Landon Trout have added 19 goals apiece this season. Ian Miller leads the team in assists with 15 on the year and has worked his way up the Bellarmine all-time assists list. Miller currently ranks fourth with 42 career assists, just three shy of the all-time record of 45.

Air Force has been able to capitalize on man-up advantages throughout conference play. The Falcons lead the SoCon with 11 man-up goals in their six conference games. Trey Lervick leads the team with 31 goals and 46 points. Matthew Schwartz has tallied 31 points (18 goals, 13 assists) on the season, good for second on the team. Cameron Carter is the leading assist man with 16 on the year.

Josh Wehn and Eric Rubak anchor the defense for the Knights. Rubak caused a game-high three turnovers this past weekend versus High Point and is second on the team this season with 13. Wehn leads the team with 15 caused turnovers and has climbed his way into the Bellarmine record book. The senior is currently tied for fifth all-time in career caused turnovers. In goal, Jordan Dondoyano ranks sixth in the nation with 13.82 saves per game.

Air Force enters Saturday's game with one of the top defenses in the nation. The Falcons rank first nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 8.23 goals per contest. They also rank first in the SoCon with 66 caused turnovers in their six league games. Brandon Jones leads the team with 26 caused turnovers. In goal, Braden Host has made 106 saves while allowing just 98.

At the faceoff X, J.T. Simonton has won 55 percent of his faceoffs over the last three games, going 33 of 60. Trent Harper has taken the majority of the faceoffs for the Falcons, winning over 64 percent of his faceoffs this season.

Opening faceoff will be Saturday at 2 p.m. ET (noon MT).
