Bellarmine lacrosse keeps up busy schedule with road game at Detroit Mercy

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine lacrosse team plays its third game in seven days on Tuesday, when the Knights travel to Pontiac, Michigan to take on the Titans of Detroit Mercy.

While the Knights (2-2) are coming in with a lot of recent game action, Detroit (1-1) enters the contest after a two-week hiatus with their last game coming on Feb. 4 against the 12th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.  The Titans fell to OSU 23-9, but they won their season opener with a tight 15-14 decision over Jacksonville.

Tuesday's game will technically be Detroit Mercy's home opener, but the game will be played indoors at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Michigan.

The Knights have won two in a row, both coming at home in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium as they knocked off Hampton 21-5 before rolling past St. Bonaventure 13-5 on Saturday.

Senior Landon Trout's six-point game (3 goals, 3 assists) against the Bonnies lifted him to the team lead with 17 on the year (8G, 9A).  Brayden Brown remains the team leader in goals with 10 on the season.

The St. Bonaventure game also bolstered the stats for faceoff specialist J.T. Simonton, who went 10-for-10 at the X to raise his win percentage to 59.2 for the season.  Freshman goalie JC Higginbotham also had a solid outing against the Bonnies with a career-high 11 saves while allowing just two goals in more than 53 minutes of action.

Through their first two games, Detroit is being paced by Kyle Waters and Brett Erskine with seven points each while Cam Kostus has accumulated five.

Alex Jarzembowski has been solid at faceoff for the Titans and has taken all but six with a 32-63 record.

In goal, Logan Shamblin has played seven of the eight quarters for Detroit Mercy this season making 12 saves.

Tuesday's game will be the 12th all-time between Bellarmine and Detroit Mercy, with the Knights having a 7-4 edge in the series.  However, the Titans can claim the most recent victory, having taken a 15-14 decision over Bellarmine at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium last season.
