LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine lacrosse team returns to action on Friday evening as the Knights travel to Ohio to take on the Cleveland State Vikings at 6 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
Cleveland State's 1-4 season record is a bit deceiving in that the Vikings have already squared off against three ranked opponents. Their lone win came on the road against the then-No. 16 Falcons of Air Force on Feb. 22 when CSU took a 12-11 decision in overtime.
Tristan Hanna comes in leading the Vikings offense with 14 goals and two assists this season. Last year, Hanna was certainly a tough assignment for the Knights as his four goals led CSU to a 17-8 victory over Bellarmine.
Other top producers for the Vikings this season are Michael Wilson (4G, 7A) and Ryan Haigh (9G, 1A). The Knights will have to deal with a Haigh at each end of the field, as Ryan Haigh's twin brother, Gareth, is the starting goalie for the Vikings.
Bellarmine enters this week 2-5 with victories coming at home over Hampton and St. Bonaventure. The 2020 Knights feature a balanced offense with the starting attack line of
Landon Trout,
Brayden Brown and
Luke Legnard coming in with very similar scoring figures. Trout has amassed 19 points (10G, 9A) while Brown (13G, 5A) and Legnard (12G, 6A) have 18 points apiece.
Senior captain
Morgan Macko also has been a big part of the Bellarmine offense with nine goals and seven assists.
On defense,
Jon Robbins has been a solid contributor for the Knights this year, leading the team in caused turnovers (9) and ground balls (23).
Tommy Franceschini also is putting up solid numbers, ranking second on the team with eight caused turnovers.
