Knights, Vikings to square off on Saturday

Louisville, Ky. - The Bellarmine Knights return to action on Saturday at noon when they welcome the Cleveland State Vikings to Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

This contest will be the first of two at home against the Vikings for the Knights this season.

Bellarmine and Cleveland State are familiar with each other, playing each other each of the past three seasons. Bellarmine's lone win over the Vikings came at home in 2018 when they won 13-9. Last season's meeting saw Cleveland Sate win a one-goal 9-8 contest.

Bellarmine (2-5) comes into Saturday's contest after defeating VMI 12-8 on Tuesday.

Through seven games, Kyle Playsted (9G/7A) and Landon Trout (11G/4A) led the Knights' offense with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Benny O'Rourk has tallied 12 points (9G/3A) with six combined goals in the last two games, including a career-high four against VMI.

Jon Robbins and Eric Rubak  have been the leaders on the defensive end for the Knights all season. Robbins leads the team in caused turnovers with 17 and has also gobbled up 18 ground balls while Rubak leads the team in ground balls with 36, which includes a school-record 12-ground ball game against VMI and has caused 15 turnovers.

In goal, JC Higginbotham has been the primary option for the Knights, starting in their last three contest. He has recorded 58 saves with a .504 save percentage through five games of action.

While Bellarmine has struggled at the faceoff dot all season, going 29% as a team, the Knights had their best performance at the dot last game against VMI with  J.T. Simonton and Matt Ury combining to go 15-for-23 (65%) at the dot.

Cleveland State (0-2) is coming off a 15-9 loss against Bucknell last Sunday.

Brendan Sigurdson leads the Vikings with seven points (4G/3A) while Stephen Masi has scored two goals and dished out an assist.

Kevin Sobey has anchored the Vikings' defense in cage, making 31 saves with a 55% save percentage.
