LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine University men's basketball coach
Scott Davenport announced the Knights' full 2022-23 schedule today with 31 regular season contests and one public exhibition. The Bellarmine slate includes a number of high-profile games against "Power 5" conferences in some of the country's most iconic venues.
The Knights' regular season opener comes Tuesday, Nov. 8 against crosstown rival University of Louisville from the ACC in the YUM! Center. Bellarmine battles two more ACC powerhouses later in the November, traveling to Clemson on the 18
th before a trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on Duke on Nov. 21.
Bellarmine's Thanksgiving will be spent on the west coast with a Friday, Nov. 25 game at Loyola Marymount. The Knights stay in the Los Angeles area to play UCLA in Pauley Pavilion on Sunday, Nov. 27. Bellarmine then will take the red-eye flight back home to visit Rupp Arena on Nov. 29 for a date with the Kentucky Wildcats.
The 2022-23 schedule also offers a number of non-conference games against in-state and regional opponents. Bellarmine will make its unofficial debut on Oct. 27 in an exhibition against Centre College in Freedom Hall. The Knights travel to Morehead State on Saturday, Nov. 12 before hosting Campbellsville-Harrodsburg two days later. (Nov. 14).
Bellarmine enjoys a December homestand with games against Alice Lloyd (Dec. 4), Wabash (Dec. 6), Murray State (Dec. 10), and Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 17. The Knights close their nonconference slate with a road trip to Evansville on Dec. 21.
"This schedule is a tremendous challenge," said Davenport. "Our players and the greatest college basketball fans in the country appreciate and understand the difficult challenge that lies ahead. Very special players/teams embrace the challenge to be a part of something bigger than one individual, knowing this will bring out the absolute best they in them. We have and always will want the absolute best for them. They deserve it and they earn it every day."
Davenport credited Bellarmine Assistant Coach
Beau Braden as being the architect of Bellarmine's 2022-23 schedule. "Coach
Beau Braden deserves all the credit for his tireless efforts in putting together a nonconference schedule that will compare to every program in the country regardless of level."
Bellarmine, which captured the 2022 ASUN Championship, opens league play on Dec. 29 by hosting the Liberty Flames. Other home ASUN games include Queens University of Charlotte (an ASUN newcomer), Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville State, North Alabama and Central Arkansas.
