CINCINNATI, Ohio —
Alex Cole set a pair of new freshman outdoor program records as Bellarmine University track and field competed Friday and Saturday in the University of Cincinnati's Oliver Nikoloff Invite.
Cole set new freshman marks in the men's discus and hammer throw while placing sixth and seventh. Cole's 46.55 toss in the discus broke Chaz Grider's previous record of 45.56 from 2008, while his 51.83 in the hammer throw topped his own record of 49.14 at the Jim Vargo Invitational.
Bellarmine had three in the top 8 of the 37-member 1500. Sophomore
Nolan Hester was the runner-up while junior
Nick Lewis placed sixth and freshman
Chase Atkins was eighth. Freshman
Alex Hooten (14th) was also in the top 15.
Sophomores
Ryan Burchett,
Hunter Griffin and
D.K. Schnieders placed 2-4 in the 10000, while freshman
Jackson Gordon finished third in the 37-member 800, as did freshman
Zander Hooten in the 110 hurdles. Sophomore
Trevor Holbrook was seventh in the 200.
Sophomore
Chloe Freilinger was the runner-up and senior
Katrina Kamarute was fourth in the women's 400. Senior
Emma Wells placed sixth and freshman
Sierra Oesterling (15th) added another top 15 in the 42-member 5000.
Senior
Jenna Walker placed seventh in the 100 hurdles.
In two weeks, Bellarmine is set to have athletes compete in Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invite and Western Carolina's Catamount Classic.
