LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University lacrosse team will head to Detroit Mercy for a noon (ET) contest Saturday before welcoming St. Bonaventure for a noon matchup Tuesday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
The latter game was moved from New York-based St. Bonaventure to Louisville due to expected frigid conditions in the Bonnies' region of the Empire State.
ABOUT DETROIT MERCY
A near-annual opponent of Bellarmine, Detroit Mercy (1-2) will be making its 2026 home debut after beginning the season with three games on the road, including at nationally ranked Ohio State and Michigan. The Titans fell 19-3 to the Buckeyes and 11-7 to the Wolverines before collecting their first win of the season, a decisive 20-8 victory at Hampton. UDM trailed 4-3 after the first quarter but dominated from there, outscoring the Pirates 17-4 over the final three periods. PJ O'Hanlon racked up five goals while Marcus Thundercloud had a hand in seven, scoring three times while distributing four assists. Overall, O'Hanlon is the team's goal leader with seven and Thundercloud is its points leader with nine (five goals, four assists). Kyle Grant has amassed 12 caused turnovers in only three games, and Canton Lanham holds a .533 face-off percentage.
ABOUT ST. BONAVENTURE
St. Bonaventure (2-1) opened the season with an 11-2 loss at Bucknell, but the Bonnies bounced back with a 10-9 road win at Binghamton and a 14-11 home victory over Robert Morris. In the latter, St. Bonaventure never trailed, and the Bonnies took control with a 5-1 run bridging the third and fourth quarters after the contest was tied at 6. Cole Kucinski netted four goals and Patrick Shanahan added three. Kucinski's nine goals are pacing the team. Jeremy Askin is at 52 percent on face-offs while goalkeeper Isaac Farmer carries a .551 save percentage and 10.33 GAA.
KNIGHTS NOTES
• Bellarmine leads Detroit Mercy 10-6 in series history. The teams have squared off in every season except one (2021) since 2009. The Knights won the first 6 meetings, but the Titans posted a 4-game winning streak in the series (2017-20). BU has won 3 of the last 4 showdowns, including a 16-4 victory last season in Louisville.
• Although Bellarmine won convincingly in last season's match, the Knights actually trailed 4-1 after the first quarter. BU's defense shut out the Titans over the final 3 periods. In that timeframe, the Knights' offense piled up 15 goals, triggered by a 7-goal second quarter.
• Bellarmine owns a 4-1 series lead over St. Bonaventure, all since 2020. The Knights secured a 9-5 home win over the Bonnies last season, as the defense pitched a shutout in the second half.
• Six of Bellarmine's first 7 games this season are on the road. The Titans represent the 5th road foe in the stretch. In BU's lone home game in the segment, a Feb. 14 contest against Cleveland State, the Knights captured a 10-7 win.

John Alie became Bellarmine's all-time leader in career goals with 114, surpassing Kyle Playsted (113). The senior attack's 160 career points are behind only Playsted (222) and Benny O'Rourk (169). His 46 career assists rank 3rd behind Playsted (109) and O'Rourk (61).
• The reigning ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a 2025 2nd-team All-ASUN selection, Alie is the ASUN leader in total points (23) while ranking 2nd in total assists (11) and tied for 3rd in total goals (12). He's recorded 5 points or more in 4 of the team's 5 games. Alie delivered a hat trick (3 goals) last season against Detroit Mercy.

Joe Alie's ASUN All-Freshman Team campaign last season included a career-high 5 goals in the victory over Detroit Mercy. The 6 points he registered in that contest are tied for his career best. Ezra Moore distributed 3 assists against Notre Dame and is the ASUN leader in total assists with 12. The 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team selection has dished out multiple assists in 4 of 5 games this season, including a program-record-tying 5 against Duke. He's also tied for 3rd on the team with 6 goals. Moore supplied a hat trick (3 goals) last season against Detroit Mercy.

Nolan Hudnut, yet another 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team pick, ranks 1st in the ASUN in total saves (65) and saves per game (13.0), and 2nd in save percentage (.524). He's amassed 15 saves or more in 3 games this season, with a high of 19 against Cleveland State. In a little over 1 season, Hudnut already ranks 5th in program history with 277 career saves, which is only 1 off from tying Scott Bowles for 4th. JC Higginbotham is the all-time leader (666).

Andrew Hoffmann made his collegiate debut against Notre Dame after entering in the first quarter and compiled 14 saves.

Jack Fischel had the first multi-goal game of his young career after scoring 2 goals against Notre Dame. The freshman attack has scored in every match this year and is tied for 3rd on the team with 6 goals.
