LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University lacrosse team will welcome Long Island for an 11:30 a.m. (ET) contest Sunday in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Bellarmine (4-3), which has won two straight games and three of its last four, will hit the halfway mark of the regular season at the conclusion of its matchup with Long Island (3-1).
ABOUT LONG ISLAND
Long Island opened the season with three straight wins, most recently a 16-10 road victory at Iona, before falling 13-5 on Tuesday at Rutgers. A strong start was the difference for the Scarlet Knights, who jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter. Ben McIsaac is pacing the Sharks with nine goals. Four other players have recorded at least five. Tyler Davide is the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week after amassing five ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win over Iona. Goalkeeper Tyler Gresh has also earned a Defensive Player of the Week nod from the conference this season, and Cameron Connolly (six goals, three assists) has wrangled a Player of the Week accolade.
KNIGHTS NOTES
• Long Island holds a 1-0 series lead over Bellarmine. The Sharks and Knights met for the first time last season in Brookville, New York, with LIU capturing a 15-9 win. BU led 5-3 after the first quarter, but the Sharks outscored the Knights 7-0 in the decisive second period. BU was never able to get closer than four goals thereafter. 2026 returners
Joe Alie recorded four goals in the contest while brother
John Alie distributed five assists and GK
Nolan Hudnut amassed 18 saves for the Knights.
• This is the second straight home outing for Bellarmine, although originally the Knights were not slated for a two-game homestand. Tuesday's match against St. Bonaventure was moved from New York to Louisville after below-freezing temperatures were forecasted in the Bonnies' region of The Empire State. BU didn't let the opportunity go to waste, as the Knights posted a 14-12 victory.
• The win over St. Bonaventure came in a quintessential "game of runs." The Knights scored three straight times in the first quarter, and the Bonnies bridged the first and second periods with three consecutive scores. BU then opened the third quarter on a 5-0 run, but SBU closed the period with four goals in a row. Ultimately, the Knights' defense recovering from the latter spree and buttoning things up in the fourth quarter keyed the win, as BU conceded a single goal in the period, which didn't come until 1:32 remained.
•
John Alie tallied four goals in the win over St. Bonaventure. It was the fifth hat trick of the season for the senior attack, who has racked up nine goals in the last two games alone after supplying five against Detroit Mercy. The latter performance helped him earn ASUN Offensive Player of the Week plaudits for the seventh time in his career. Three games ago against then-No. 7 and now top-ranked Notre Dame, Alie became the program's all-time leading goal scorer. He's now up to 123 career goals. Against the Bonnies, Alie passed Benny O'Rourk (169) for second on the career points list with 172. Kyle Playsted (222) is the leader.
• The reigning ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a 2025 2nd-team All-ASUN selection, Alie ranks first in the ASUN in total goals (21) and total points (35), and is second in assists (14).
•
Ezra Moore matched
John Alie with a career-high four goals against St. Bonaventure. It marked the third hat trick of the season for the sophomore attack. A 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team selection, Moore is the conference leader in total assists (17) while ranking second in total points (30). He's recorded at least two assists in all but one game this season, including a career high of five against then-No. 11 and now-No. 5 Duke.
•
Joe Alie ranks second in the ASUN in total goals, following only his brother with 18. The sophomore attack notched three goals against St. Bonaventure, representing his fourth hat trick of the season. In roughly a season-and-a-half, the 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team pick has accumulated nearly 50 career goals. He stands at 47, with 29 coming in his debut season.
• Goalkeeper
Nolan Hudnut, yet another 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team pick, accumulated 15 saves against St. Bonaventure, the sixth time this season he's registered at least 13 saves. Hudnut ranks first in the ASUN in total saves (93) and saves per game (13.3), and third in save percentage (.538). In less than two seasons, Hudnut already ranks fourth in program history with 305 career saves. JC Hutchins is next with 315. JC Higginbotham is the all-time leader (666).
